Which Superocean do you own?
Breitling launched the Superocean in 1957 as a diver’s watch, and it has been rebuilt several times since. The Superocean range includes several versions:
Superocean Automatic
The range from the 2020s, in sizes from about 36mm to 46mm, with a rotating bezel and a choice of steel bracelet or rubber strap.
Superocean Heritage
A vintage-inspired design, with differences between generations in case size, dial, bezel and movement. Some versions are chronographs.
Superocean Chronograph and Chronograph M2000
Earlier chronograph divers in larger cases, usually on rubber or a steel bracelet.
Superocean Steelfish and other older divers
Older models vary in case size and configuration. We use the reference, dial, bezel and case back to identify the version.
High water-resistance and specialist variants
Some Superocean models were designed for greater water resistance than the standard versions. The exact model matters, so send us the case-back details if you have them.
Your reference number is on the case back and on the papers. If you can’t find it, send photos of the dial, the bezel and the strap or bracelet and we will identify it.
What affects what we offer for a Superocean
Model and configuration
Each Superocean has its own reference and configuration. We identify the model, then assess its size, movement, material, condition and completeness before making an offer.
Bezel, crystal and water-resistance
We check the bezel and its markings, the crystal, crown and case for visible wear or damage. A bezel that turns freely when it should click, moisture under the crystal or a crown that does not work properly can affect the offer. A model’s original water-resistance rating does not confirm its current water resistance, so tell us about any known water ingress or damage.
Strap or bracelet
Superoceans come on rubber straps, steel bracelets and sometimes fabric or leather. We check the strap or bracelet, clasp and any original links. If the original strap or bracelet is missing, tell us what comes with the watch.
Case size and finish
Superoceans range widely in size. We look at the case sides, the lugs and the screw-down crown for wear or deep marks.
Completeness
Missing the box, papers or extra links is no barrier to getting an offer.

How selling a Superocean works
- 1
Tell Ben about the watch
The valuation form works, or WhatsApp photos of the dial, bezel, case back and strap.
- 2
Receive an estimate
Ben looks at it himself and replies, usually within hours.
- 3
Choose your route
Post it by fully insured Royal Mail Special Delivery, or book an appointment with Ben in Manchester or at our Mayfair showroom. Appointments only, never drop-ins.
- 4
Inspection and final offer
We inspect the watch against its reference and condition before confirming our final offer. If the offer differs from the estimate, we explain why. If you decide not to sell, we return the watch insured at no cost.
- 5
Payment
If you accept the final offer, we pay by Faster Payments bank transfer. The money normally reaches your account within minutes. From your first call to Ben to cash in the bank, a typical sale takes around two days, sometimes longer, depending on how quickly we can meet or the watch reaches us. There is no commission.
Selling a Superocean without its box and papers
It is fine to sell without them. Ben asks whether you have the box and papers because they help us check the watch’s identity and match its details to the documentation, and “photos of the papers are enough to start; we match them to the watch when we see it.” Without them, the serial number does more of the work. We can check a Breitling serial number with the brand, and Breitling provides a Certificate of Authenticity if you want independent confirmation.
Ben is straightforward about the limit: the serial check is “99% foolproof, not 100%”. That is why we also examine the watch itself.
Our guide explains whether you need the box and papers to sell a watch.
Scratched bezel, worn strap, water in the crystal
Scratches and signs of wear do not rule out a sale. “If it needs a polish, we’re fine with that,” says Ben. He checks the bezel, glass and movement to see whether the watch can be sold in its current condition. Tell us about any known damage when you send the photos, such as moisture under the crystal, a bezel that won’t turn or a crown that won’t screw down, so we can take it into account before we inspect the watch.

Superocean questions
Is a Superocean Heritage valued differently from a standard Superocean?
The reference, configuration, condition and completeness all affect the offer. Send us the reference and photos and we can assess your particular watch.
Do I need to service the watch before selling?
No. Sell it as it is and we will take the condition into account.
Will you buy a Superocean with a damaged bezel or crystal?
Yes, in most cases. Photos and a short description of the damage are enough for an estimate.
What about the original rubber strap?
If you have it, keep it with the watch. A strap in good order helps the set, but a worn one doesn’t stop us buying.
Can I sell a Superocean I've inherited and know nothing about?
Yes. Send photos of the dial, bezel and case back and we will identify which version you have.
